Windstorm coverage for League City homeowners
A home in the Houston–Galveston area deserves a clear review of hurricane-season coverage. We help League City homeowners explore available private wind and hail insurance and TWIA options when the property meets the requirements. Start with the address and your current policy so an agent can check whether wind coverage is included or must be purchased separately.
Check the property before choosing a policy
TWIA eligibility depends on the actual property location and other underwriting requirements. Eligible property in Galveston County is within the designated coastal area; a mailing city or ZIP alone does not establish eligibility. TWIA also requires a private-market declination and applicable windstorm certification. We will review the location rather than assume every League City address follows the same path.
Make your renewal comparison useful
When comparing quotes, review the dwelling limit, wind and hail deductible, roof settlement terms, and protection for detached structures and belongings. A lower premium may come with a different deductible or coverage terms. Have your declarations page, roof age, any windstorm certificate, and the renewal or closing date ready.
Flooding is a separate coverage question
League City’s stormwater and preparedness resources encourage homeowners to review flood risks and insurance. A windstorm policy does not cover flood damage. Ask about separate flood coverage for both the building and its contents, and use the city’s floodplain information to help investigate your address.
Before roof work or a home purchase
If you are replacing a roof or buying a home, allow time to review insurance and applicable certification requirements. Confirm what documentation the insurer needs before your closing or renewal deadline. Keep your wind, homeowners, and flood policies together for a coordinated review.

League City Windstorm Insurance FAQs
No law requires it, but if you have a mortgage, your lender will require wind and hail coverage. League City is in Galveston County, and many homeowners policies in the Texas coastal counties exclude wind and hail, so most League City homeowners need either a separate windstorm policy or a homeowners policy that includes wind. Without it, a hurricane or hailstorm could leave you paying for roof and structural damage yourself.
There is no single price. Your premium depends on your home's exact location, age and construction, roof type and age, coverage amount, and deductible. League City homes are on the mainland, but how close you are to Clear Lake and Galveston Bay can still affect pricing. The fastest way to know your cost is a quote. Send us your League City address and we will compare private carriers and TWIA. Request a League City windstorm quote.
A WPI-8 is a windstorm certificate of compliance from the Texas Department of Insurance, not a city permit, and it matters most for insurance. Galveston County is in TWIA's coastal area, so a home built, added on to, or repaired (including re-roofed) since January 1, 1988 generally needs a WPI-8, WPI-8-E, or WPI-8-C to qualify for TWIA coverage. Buyers, lenders, and some private insurers ask for it too. Search for existing certificates with the TDI windstorm certificate lookup.
Most of League City is in Galveston County, which is fully within TWIA's coastal area. A small part of League City is in Harris County, where TWIA only covers properties east of Highway 146. Send us your address and we will confirm which options apply to your home.
